A WordPress plugin that registers OpenRouter as an AI provider for the WordPress AI Client. OpenRouter is an OpenAI-compatible API gateway offering hundreds of models from multiple providers through a single API key.
This plugin requires WordPress 7.0 or higher (currently in beta) and PHP 7.4 or higher.

Hundreds of models available
OpenRouter provides hundreds of models, each with their own capabilities. You can integrate them in all sorts of flows, for example to generate featured images for your posts. Screenshot shows an experiment, using the AI Experiments plugin.
Integrates seamlessly
The OpenRouter AI provider integrates seamlessly with the WordPress administration panel, registering it alongside on of the default recommended AI provider plugins.
Intelligent model switching
You can see the OpenRouter provider intelligently switch between models, via the usage reporting in your OpenRouter account. This is three API calls, for generating an image: one to generate the image generate prompt, the second (switched to Nano Banana model) is for the actual generation of the featured image, while Kimi K2.5 is again used to generate the alt text of that same image.
Select what models to use
The settings for the OpenRouter AI provider allow you to select what models it can use, even including a filter to only allow free models (which OpenRouter often makes available).
